| Unprotected tank bottoms will inevitably corrode. Cathodic protection (CP) controls external corrosion of tank floors caused by pitting, stray currents, galvanic effects, differential aeration, and thermogalvanic differences. It is a pro-active, environmentally responsible leak control solution for both new & existing Aboveground Storage Tanks (AST). |
 |
|
| |
| Several cathodic protection system types are available and are customized to best suit individual site conditions and requirements. Benefits include: |
| |
- Leak Prevention
- Cost Effectiveness
- Proven Performance
- Complete Soil Side Corrosion Control

Since the early 1950's, Corrosion Service has maintained an on-going interest in and commitment to each installed system. This long term commitment provides valuable insight to performance which is incorporated into subsequent system refinements.
Corrosion Service has installed cathodic protection AST systems built on rock, sand, shale, and clay; for old and replacement tank floors; for hot and ambient temperature storage tanks. We know that every situation is unique and can minimize your installation costs by providing specific designs for different site conditions.
Once a tank is built or a floor has been replaced, confidence in the performance of the installed CP system is paramount. No written warranty can provide the kind of assurance you obtain from engaging a firm with our level of experience. |

| In addition to being based on our considerable background, the following design concepts conform to the requirements of NACE Standard RP-0193 and A.P.I. 651 Recommended Practice. System types include the following cathodic protection anode arrangements for: |
| |
| NEW TANKS (Under-Floor Arrangements) |
|
| EXISTING TANKS |
|
| TANKS REQUIRING REFURBISHMENT OF FLOOR PLATES |

The cathodic protection installation techniques and materials Corrosion Service has developed and proven since 1950, result in low maintenance costs, guaranteed system life, and effective corrosion control.
Cathodic protection can be installed for as little as 10% of the capital cost of a new floor without the cost of taking a tank out of service.
While most projects are performed on a turn-key basis, individual components may be selected from a complete range of services, including: |
| |
- Feasibility Testing
- System Design, Drawings, and Specifications (site specific and code compliant)
- Specialty Material Supply (i.e. Current Sources, Anodes, and optional system components including Coupon / Reference Probes, Monitoring Ducts which allow for close interval potential measurement across the full diameter of the tank floor, and Remote Monitoring / Control equipment)
- Technical Support, Supervision, & Inspection During Construction
- General or Specialty Contractor
- System Commissioning including Maintenance & Operating Manuals
- Post-Construction Evaluation, Monitoring, and Maintenance (All inclusive maintenance agreements are also available)
|
| Optional cathodic protection system components include Coupon / Reference Probe(s) which enable measurement of tank potential, current density, and corrosion rate. |
